My Priorities

“Our children, families and community deserve strong representation and thoughtful leadership.”

Priority One

Student Achievement & Success

Everything a school board does should come back to one question: are our students learning, growing and thriving? Student achievement is the clearest measure of whether our schools are working, and it deserves sustained attention rather than occasional review.

That means supporting students who need extra academic help so they are not left behind, and challenging students who are ready to go further. It means welcoming innovation in how children are taught, so classrooms keep pace with the world our students are growing into. And it means recognising that achievement and well-being are connected — children learn best when they feel supported, confident and known.

  • Academic support for students who need it most
  • Inclusive, equitable learning opportunities for every child
  • Innovation in teaching and learning
  • Preparing students for the opportunities ahead of them
Priority Two

Supporting Parents

Parents are a child's first teachers and their most consistent advocates. When families are informed and genuinely involved, students do better — and schools become stronger for it.

Communication from the board should be clear, timely and easy to find. Parents should not have to work hard to understand a decision that affects their child, and they should know where to turn when they have a question or a concern. Meaningful participation means more than being informed after the fact; it means families having real opportunities to be heard while decisions are still being made.

  • Accessible, plain-language communication
  • Transparency about decisions that affect families
  • Real opportunities for parent participation
  • A trustee who is approachable and responsive
Priority Three

Catholic Education

Catholic education holds together two things that belong together: academic excellence and the formation of character. Students are taught to think carefully and work hard — and also to be compassionate, responsible and grounded in strong values.

Faith and service are part of what makes this tradition distinctive. Students learn that their gifts are meant to be shared, and that caring for others is not an extra activity but part of how a person lives. Joseph is committed to protecting and strengthening that tradition, and to doing so in a way that is welcoming and respectful to families right across our diverse community.

  • Faith and character development alongside academics
  • A culture of compassion and service to others
  • Academic excellence as a core expectation
  • A welcoming spirit toward every family in our community
Priority Four

Safe & Welcoming Schools

No child can learn well if they do not feel safe. Physical safety matters, and so does the quieter kind — knowing you belong, that you will be treated with respect, and that an adult will listen if something is wrong.

A welcoming school is one where every student can see a place for themselves, whatever their background or ability. That is a practical goal as much as a moral one: students who feel they belong attend more, participate more and achieve more. Joseph will advocate for school environments where students, staff and families all feel respected.

  • Safe learning environments for every student
  • Inclusive schools where every child belongs
  • Attention to student well-being and mental health
  • Respect for students, staff and families alike
Priority Five

Community Engagement

A trustee represents a community, and that only works if the trustee is listening to it. Milton is a growing, diverse place, and the families of Ward's 2 & 3 bring a wide range of experiences and expectations to their schools.

Joseph wants to hear from parents, students, staff and residents — not only at election time, but throughout the term. Strong relationships between schools and the wider community also open doors: local organisations, parishes, businesses and neighbours all have something to contribute when they are invited in. Ensuring every voice is heard, respected and valued is the foundation of representation that actually reflects our community.

  • Listening to Milton families throughout the term
  • Stronger relationships between schools and the community
  • Collaboration with local organisations and partners
  • Inclusion of every voice in our diverse community
Priority Six

Responsible Leadership

School board resources belong to the community, and they exist to serve students. Responsible stewardship means asking hard questions about how money is spent, understanding the trade-offs before voting, and being able to explain those decisions afterward.

Accountability is not adversarial — it is simply what people are entitled to expect from those they elect. Joseph will approach board decisions thoughtfully, seek out the information needed to decide well, and be transparent with families about the reasoning behind the choices made on their behalf.

  • Accountability to the families of Ward's 2 & 3
  • Responsible stewardship of school board resources
  • Thoughtful, well-informed decision-making
  • Transparent leadership families can follow
